ATTENDANCE, ABSENCES & TARDINESS
In order for students to be successful at Centennial, they must be regular and punctual in their attendance. It is extremely important that students attend school daily and report to class promptly.
Absences
Washington
State
Law requires students absent from school to bring a written excuse that is signed by a parent or guardian. The parent/guardian has 48 hours to excuse the absence. Parents may call our office from 7:00 a.m. if their child will be absent that day (921-5256).
Excused Absences
A student will be excused from school attendance if she/he is physically unable to attend school. Prior notification may be made through our office for anticipated absences (family trips, etc.). The school may request a physician's excuse for excessive absences. For each day absent, the student will have one (1) day to make up the missing assignments plus (1) extra day.
Unexcused Absences
Absences that are not excused by a parent/guardian will be considered unexcused absences. Students who have (3) or more unexcused absences in one month, or (7) or more in one year, will be referred to the District Truancy Board for intervention. A total of (6) unexcused periods equals (1) unexcused day of unexcused absence. If the student's attendance fails to improve, the student will be referred to the District Truancy Board for intervention. If the student's attendance fails to improve, the student will be referred to juvenile court for disposition. Teachers need not accept makeup work resulting from unexcused absences.
Truancy
A student who is absent from school or class without the knowledge and consent of the parent(s) and school authorities is truant. Truancy is a very serious matter and will result in immediate disciplinary action. Teachers need not accept makeup work for assignments missed during truancy.
Tardiness
Students arriving at school after 8:15 a.m. need to sign-in at our office before proceeding to class. It is the student's responsibility to be in class and in all assigned events on time. Refer to CentennialMiddle School Progressive Discipline Plan.
Make-up Work
Homework requests during a student's absence may be requested in our office by 9:00 a.m. & may be picked up between 2pm and 4pm. Opportunities to make up class work will be provided by the teacher(s) at the request of the parent/guardian. Students may obtain missed assignments immediately upon return to school, complete those assignments in a timely fashion. For each day absent, the student will have one (1) day to make up the missing assignments plus one (1) extra day. Homework assignment requests will only be taken after the student has been absent (1) full day.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Each student enrolled in WestValleySchool District has stated and implied rights and responsibilities. These are found in the Students Rights and Responsibilities pamphlet that will be issued to and signed by each student upon their entrance into Centennial each school year.

No student may leave campus after arriving at school, during the school day, or during lunch. Students who fail to check out will be subject to disciplinary action.
