Have a Safe and Happy Summer Break: See you next school year.

Congratulations 2010 Graduates!

As we leave our buildings with a touch of sadness we look ahead with the excitement that many feel for a new school year. Nurses will be back September 1st looking for those emergency health care plans that were sent in the mail in June. We also will contact students and families with special health care needs to see if there is anything to change from last year. If your child has any special health concerns or medication needs please make sure to contact your building nurse. (see list below)

Please also remember to pick up your medication. Washington state law and WVSD policies require us to dispose of any medications not picked up at the end of the school year. Disposal will be completed June 16, 2010.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION AND REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS

It's that exciting time of year as parents/guardians begin registering thier kindergartner for their first year of school. One part of the registration process is the immunization requirement. All students must have a completed Certificate of Immunization Status on file before the first day of school. Please schedule an appointment with your primary physician to review your childs immunization status. We have a list of the new requirements for 2010-2011 school year that you can download.

We also have information regarding upcoming dates for FREE Immunization clinics. These clinics are sponsored by Group Health and Spokane Regional Health District. Remember to bring their lifetime or doctor provided vaccination records to the clinic.

Please be aware that students entering 6th grade are now required to have 1 dose of Varicella and 1 dose of Tdap after age 11. (There must be 5 years between Tdap and any other tetanus -containing vaccine.)

Medications at School:

Students who need medication at school must have a written Medication Authorization form. Please download one from this site. This is required for both prescription and non-prescription medication. If at all possible please adjust timing of the medication so that it can be taken other than during school hours. Send medications with medication authorization form in the original container from the pharmacy.

Student with Life Threatening Health Conditions:

Washington State Law requires that students with life threatening health conditions must have an Emergency Care Plan in place before the first day of attendance. Please contact the school nurse as soon as possible. (Examples of health conditions that require Emergency Care Plans: asthma, diabetes, severe food allergies, severe bee sting allergies, etc.)

Immunization records' are being reviewed. If we find that your student is missing a vaccine requirement we will be sending a letter to inform you of what vaccine is missing. We have found that many of our 6th graders are missing the new Tdap and Varicella (chickenpox) requirements. Did you know that after age 11 students need one more dose of Tdap (Tetanus, diptheria and pertusis)? Please schedule an appointment for your child soon after their 11th birthday.
